Store unwashed leeks in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. When washing leeks, make sure to rinse thoroughly since they are usually grown in a dirt mound.

Leeks are very similar to green onions and can even be used as a substitute. The main difference is that the taste of leeks is milder, subtler, and sweeter than that of green onions.
